The germinating idea behind this piece was the intersection between anticipation and recollection. This music is self- referential, with sounds recurring throughout the piece unpredictably. I hope these trigger a sense of recognition, both of past and of future.
Both across the span of the piece but also across a larger stretch of time there are musical references—a motive from Sibelius’ 5th Symphony makes its way into the music.
